“Home is where one starts from.” -T.S. Eliot
Celebrate. Protect. Preserve. Enhance.
Our Mission: The Stroudwater Neighborhood Association is dedicated to stewardship of the natural, social, and historic character that makes Stroudwater Village and the surrounding neighborhood unique. To fulfill this mission, the Association aims to celebrate, protect, preserve, and enhance the Stroudwater neighborhood’s historic buildings, its natural resources, and its sense of community. The Association serves the neighborhood by bringing ideas, needs, and concerns as a liaison to the City of Portland, Maine.

Activities
The Stroudwater Neighborhood Association’s activities flow directly from its mission of preserving the integrity of the village, its historic past, as well as its current use. We do this through research, advocacy, and collaboration with other organizations in the area. We help monitor land use, real estate development and historic preservation, pedestrian and vehicle traffic, water and air quality, and Jetport noise. We work to improve the Stroudwater River and Fore River natural environments so they can be a year-round source of recreation and enjoyment. We advocate for safety on our streets and sidewalks, especially for our children, seniors, bicyclists, and motorists, primarily by working with the City on improvements to outer Congress Street and Westbrook Street. We plan and hold year-round community events that are informative, collaborative, and fun. And, we research and gather historic Stroudwater Village material and stories, for the benefit of current residents, and for the historical record.

Membership
All residents of the Stroudwater neighborhood are considered members of the SNA. As a collaborative volunteer-run organization, the SNA encourages all its resident members to help with and participate in neighborhood events and activities, and always welcomes new Trustees to join the Association’s Board each spring. The Association is able to do its work on behalf of the neighborhood thanks to annual contributions by the community residents. Your contribution helps with the costs of events and activities, as well as costs to maintain the organization and its goals.
The more community engagement we have, the stronger our Association becomes!
Annual suggested contributions: Single household - $35, Family household - $65, Family Plus household - $100
